the big test....

An earthquake has occured in Turkey. We are dropped off at a field in complete darkness. The moon provides just enough light to see the contours of trees. It is freezing and the snow covers the ground.
We set up camp, a tent, and organize all the equipment, food and personal items. We spend about 3 hours outide on mats, using sleeping bags to keep warm.

At 1 am the call comes. Our "sister team" has been located and our "fixer" is on his way to pick us up. Minutes later, driving on a dark road we see someone waiving a flashlight on a hillside. We exit, asses the situation, and see a car on top of the hill.

When we get up there we find a car crashed, 4 casualties with different injuries. Using flashlights we (Heather Nauert, abc News, and Stephen Puddiecombe, CBC and I) work to assess the injuries, treat them and evacuate our victims to the nearest aid station. All in a "real life"scenario. This wrapped up the Refresher course, Surviving Hostile Regions.
