The broadcasters were getting ready. They seemed almost excited. Wolf Blitzer and the folks in the situation room were going on and on, speculating about what might be said and what the impact may be. And so it started. The show. I am talking about the annual State of the Union Address by the President of the United States.
It's like a scripted play where the president has the leading role. Supporting cast are the people in power. Republicans on one side, Democrats on the other. The balcony is filled with dignitaries and 1 dog. Applause erupt like on command every 45 seconds. If you participate or not is mostly based on if what's being said fits the "party line". And of course all the powerful quotes, carefully scripted to be remembered.
After it's all over the media goes into a frenzy about every detail of the 45 min speech. Can't wait for tomorrow's newspaper...
