prison view...

As we’re driving through the city of Caracas, Venezuela, one thing strikes me in particular. The place looks a lot like a prison. Residential streets are lined with barbed wire and tall barriers. Hotels have electric fences 12 ft high. And perhaps people have a cause for worry. Three years ago there were 11,037 murders in Venezuela and the current estimate is 9000. That´s 25 murders a day!!! Certain neighborhoods in Caracas will have 50-60 murders on any given weekend!

When we are shooting overview shots of the city and our driver and translator said: "It’s time to go. We don’t want to stay here too long..." I simply said "ok" and got in the car...

On a more positive note our hotel is in a very safe area, we met with Miss Venezuela 1994, saw kids playing in the street and had a great dinner at a Brazilian restaurant... We´ll see what tomorrow brings... :)
