September 11, 1973, was a sad day in Chile’s history. At the hands of Augusto Pinochet thousands of people lost their lives in a military coup and the seventeen years of the military dictatorship that followed.
Today we visited Villa Grimaldi, an "interrogation camp" where people where systematically tortured. Some 240 people disappeared, their remains never to be found. According to sources a lot of them met their faith out to sea, being pushed out of helicopters, tied to pieces of rail road tracks...
The massgraves that have been uncovered in Chile reveal bodies, some never to be identified, leaving families still searching for answers.
We also visited the biggest cemetery I’ve ever seen. It was like a city. Block after block of tombs. One section is dediated to the people lost in the 70´s...
This, and much much more makes Chile a fascinating country.
